The objective is to pilot an "Open Data Initiative - Hong Kong" (ODI-HK), a best practice discovery and practical implementation project designed to assist the Government and private sector companies to become more tuned to "Open Data" practice.
ODI-HK works in cooperation with Government and non-Government units to try to improve Open Data service delivery in Hong Kong by promoting the awareness of the link between the Open Data practice and social and business innovation. ODI-HK provides consultation and bridge-building capacity to the best "Open Data" practices from around the world. Seminars and conferences bring together data owners and data users to exchange ideas and to improve the effectiveness of service delivery.
Ultimately, ODI-HK is designed to bring tangible social impact and business impact to Hong Kong through improved policy development and service delivery. The outputs and outcomes of ODI-HK have direct and indirect impact on Hong Kong's ratings in international competitiveness and innovation indexes. A preliminary report of current "Open Data" capacity in Hong Kong is provided in the publications section.
